Non-Insured Patients
We have achieved affordable, fixed price hospital costs from our partner hospitals. You may be surprised at how affordable this can be. Conditions do apply, so phone us now to discuss.
SELF FUNDED
If you do not have private health insurance you can still undergo weight loss surgery as a self-funded patient.
Weight loss surgery and lap band surgery cost is not offered in the public hospitals of the Central Coast and therefore non-insured patients will have to bear the full cost.
Unfortunately the public health system does not currently have a waiting list for public surgery. You can choose to be admitted to hospital as a private patient in a private hospital.
You will be responsible for all hospital costs prior to admission to the hospital. The hospital costs are not covered by Medicare.
You will be able to claim some of the fees for the surgeon, his surgical assistant and anesthetist when the procedure is performed.
All subsequent visits with the clinic will attract a fee which a rebate is claimable from Medicare.
For more information, we recommend phoning the clinic as we have some workarounds that could offer you a financial solution.
PRIVATE INSURANCE + WAIT PERIOD
We recommend patients obtain the required level of private health insurance and serve the funds respective waiting period (for specific waiting period details, please discuss this with your health fund of choice).
Whilst many patients may find the typical 12-month waiting period disheartening, it is still a considerably faster route to surgery than proceeding through the public system, where the waiting period is often many years.
It is cheapest to join a health fund and book in for surgery after the waiting period is up. You can be treated as a private patient and this also allows you to bring down your out of pocket expenses.
SUPERANNUATION ACCESS
Again, you may access your superannuation funds on Centrelink Early Release of Superannuation in order to cover the costs of weight loss surgery. We do not offer payment plans as we believe that this adds unnecessary stress to the weight loss journey.
No Private Health Insurance
AREAS TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT FOR SELF FUNDED PATIENTS
Due to high associated costs for self-funded bariatric surgery which include:
- hospital fees,
- theatre fees,
- surgical equipment,
- surgeon
- anaesthetic costs;
- and in some circumstances an ICU bed.
The fees for these services can be difficult to definitively predict and can ultimately amount to many tens of thousands of dollars.
For patients who wish to have their procedure in the public system, a referral will need to be sourced from their GP to a public hospital which provides a weight loss service.
